Victoria Reggie Kennedy to be honored at June 3 League Gala

5-25-11 Feature Story:

Victoria Reggie Kennedy will be recognized for her advocacy on behalf of the nation's health care reform law -- the culmination of her late husband Senator Edward M. Kennedy's life's work to bring quality affordable health care to all -- at this year's Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers' annual awards gala, An Evening in Our Garden.

Reggie Kennedy, who has provided longtime leadership on issues affecting women, children and families, will also present the League's Edward M. Kennedy Founder Award to former Codman Square Health Center Director William Walczak. The award, established last year, honors the achievements made by dedicated consumers, administrators, clinicians and leaders who continue to protect and promote health care access as a right for all rather than a privilege for a few.

The annual event constitutes the largest single gathering of community-based health care leaders in the state. In addition to Walczak, this year's awardees include: Victor Lewis, MD, Outstanding Physician, MGH Chelsea HealthCare Center; John Feehan, Outstanding Board Member, Lynn Community Health Center; Robert Ingala, Outstanding Executive Director, Greater Lawrence Family Health Center; Martha Fisk, Outstanding Employee, Holyoke Health Center; Maria Goode, Outstanding Employee, Brookside Community Health Center, Jamaica Plain; and Priscilla Jackett, Outstanding Employee, Outer Cape Health Services, Provincetown.

An Evening in Our Garden will take place on Friday, June 3 from 6 - 11 p.m. at the Westin Copley Place, America Ballroom, 10 Huntington Avenue, Boston. For tickets or to sponsor the event, contact Cheryl Shaughnessy.
