Health Plans, League Make $40K Contribution to Tornado Relief Fund

6-17-11 Feature Story:

In a gesture of tremendous support and generosity, Neighborhood Health Plan, Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan and Network Health each have pledged $10,000 to the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers' Tornado and Emergency Relief Fund.

The June 1 storm caused significant damage to Caring Health Center in Springfield, including the destruction of 25 employee cars by flying debris. A preliminary estimate of the damage, which includes facility costs not reimbursable through insurance as well as the storm-related transportation and housing needs of the center's employees and patients, has been set at more than $275,000. Proceeds of the fund also will be used to help employees and patients of other western and central Massachusetts health centers affected by the storm. The League will contribute an additional $10,000, bringing total start-up funding to $40,000.

The Relief Fund will be promoted primarily through social media, direct solicitation and partner websites. Disbursements from the fund will be made directly to the impacted organizations for use at their discretion.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Neighborhood Health Plan, Boston Medical Center HealthNet Plan and Network Health for their compassion and significant contributions to this effort. To make a gift to the fund, please click on the Network for Good link above.
