The Family Medicine (FM) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Residency Training Program aims to expand the pool of primary care providers who are committed to and well-prepared for serving underserved populations in community settings.

The Family Medicine Residency Program was offered in contract year one and year two only.

We would like to acknowledge the following recipient of the year two residency slots:

  • Boston Medical Center (BMC) Academic Family Medicine Residency Program

We would like to acknowledge the following recipients of the year one residency slots:

  • Boston Medical Center (BMC) Academic Family Medicine Residency Program

Nurse Practitioner (NP) Residency Program

A portion of the Family Medicine (FM) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) Residency Training Program funding will be used to increase the number of family nurse practitioner (FNP) residency training slots in community health centers in Massachusetts.

Successful applicants will be awarded $105,000 for each residency slot approved for the program period. Payment will be made prior to the start of the residency program year. These funds will be broken out as follows:

  • $85,000 per resident may cover program and curriculum development, training costs, and resident compensation for one training year, only, starting July/August 2022
  • $20,000 per resident in "flexible funding" to cover curriculum development costs, educator and administrator time and effort, and/or other training resources

Community health centers participating in MassHealth ACOs are eligible to apply for funding through this program. While CHCs are not required to have an established or accredited FNP residency program, CHCs must demonstrate significant residency training experience and infrastructure. CHCs will be expected to align existing or new programs with established standards for NP residency training programs to meet a baseline of quality and standardization.

This application cycle is now closed.

Applications for the FNP Residency Training Program were due July 9, 2021 by 5pm EST.
